FS: King 3B Silversonic

This 3B Silversonic (s.n. 676xxx) is from '70-80. It looks great and plays great. Normal wear for its age. The sterling silver bell still looks really good. The slide has a removable lead pipe; current pipe is a nickel Shires #3 .508 and has a modified (trumpet) water key. Comes with a Tuxedo Gig Bag. Pictures are below:

Horn is currently at University of Illinios with a friend who was testing it out.

$1550.00. Payment via Paypal preferred or locally at University of Illinois. Shipping via UPS Ground within continental United States to the person buying the horn (no third party shippers). Not interested in trades for other horns.

Curious. Any idea how it compares with the change in leadpipe?

Plays very open with a dark sound but can brighten up when you put the gas pedal down. A friend of mine who lurks here played this horn a few times with his preferred pipe (bronze Herrick pipe I think) and he liked the blow with that as well. Before I made the lead pipe change, I always felt the horn played a little tight. After the lead pipe change (to a pipe that was not this one), it improved on the blow considerably. It took a few years before I settled on the Shires pipe.

If it doesn't sell on ebay, I might be interested at a slightly lower price. Contact me at ebrenner@comcast.net.
