the first two links are to video of a recent gig.  both are recent arrangements for george gee's band.  the first is a cannonball tune called "wabash".  the second link is "you say you care" featuring our female vocalist, hilary gardner.  rough performance...but that was a first reading for most of the band.

When you have people like Billy Hart, Reggie Johnson, George Adams, Nick Brignola, John Hicks and Jim Knepper sharing on the same stage with you, you are surrounded by "emotion, daring and warmth". It's hard not to be infected by it.

Yeah! My kind of swing. And what a great audience of dancers. Unfortunately you rarely find anything like that kind of enthusiasm anywhere in Australia these days, except maybe at the jazz festivals. And when you do, they have to be back home in bed at the old folds home before 9pm. That obvious dance floor enthusiasm from a not-so-old audience reminds me very much of how it was in the UK in the fifties and sixties. Please take me back! Or maybe I should visit your neck of the woods, Dave?

I like Ed Pezant. Particularly the melody referenced parts of his solo. That is the kind of solo a non musician audience understands. It is no good playing solos that only musicians appreciate.

i'd feel a little conflicted selling these charts, since i wrote them specifically for the band.  not sure i'm ready to go that direction.

and...the scene is alive around here.  that party was the night before new year's eve.  we played a dance a couple of weeks ago in Washington DC and there were more than 800 folks dancing.  it's amazing to see and feel the band actually engaged in conversation with the dancers.  some of the very sophisticated dancers actually dance the arrangments or interpret a soloists improvisations through their movements.  it gives one a visual perspective of music...inspiring at times.

No, not even close - it's his Bach 36 New York. He had two of them. Lost one in 1971 to British Airways. Found the love of his life, a gold plated Bach 36 Mt Vernon with oversized (8,5") bell. Jim always played Bach 36. A rarity in his day.

Her dad is a really super fine player, and I always thought she sounded a bit like him- strong sense of time, really beautiful phrasing.  She's talented, a solid player and just getting started..
