Hi all!

When I'm not commissioning new music I've been an experimantal improvisor on occassion. I just released my debut improv album on Bandcamp, 11 tracks of Bass Trumpet + bassoon reed playing that is probably not like anything you've heard. If you have a second to check it out! It's real out there, but also something I believe in. Think more Ornette Coleman than JJ, and you'll be on the right track - if that still appeals to you, give a listen!

My god! Are those bassoon multiphonics? That's what that sounds like? I always knew I needed to get myself a bassoon!

Wow.  Made my dog howl!

Is this the ultimate of PDQ Bach's Tromboon?

(I hope this doesn't become mainstream Image )

Very cool and right up my alley. Equally cool that it's available in FLAC. https://xiph.org/flac/

Any chance you might perform this kind of stuff locally? Perhaps at Downtown Music Gallery? (The weekly free concert series is terrific, by the way.) http://www.downtownmusicgallery.com/

Give creative music like this a chance!

I've lived and/or worked in Brooklyn for most of my adult life and it has been sad to see it so devastated by gentrification. Where did all of the working class people go?

I'm fairly open minded musically speaking.  But this is definitely not my bag.

Good luck

thanks for the feedback! it's definitely on the experimental side and very non-traditional

(and it's still music whether you like it or not)

I dig it man!

Most of the time when I hear avant garde art music it always seems that more went into the ideas and the implementation rather than making art that is music. When artists do that they intend to make music but instead they just get a grating collection of nonsense sounds. You have clearly made something here that is music! I don't know if that makes any sense haha...

One thing that did throw my ears off a little bit was it felt like something was leaning reeeeealllllly sharp in a couple of tracks... I'm sure it was just an overtone or something but it was pretty jarring to me! I took it as a good thing to be honest. You clearly were not going for something that was trying to hide itself.

Thanks for listening! I think i get what you're saying - i didn't try to make this instrument to be shocking - but to try to express something other than "look at the cool sounds!"

I think the sharp sounds are due to the fact that the instrument isn't fully controllable - like I have access to shaping the sounds - but there's some elements out of my control - it almost feels like a duo when I'm practicing the horn!

I think it's admirable that you are trying these things.  Even if I don't like the result.

First, maybe somebody will figure out how to get a different sound that I might like.

Second, we learn from every attempt we make, however successful or unsuccessful it is.  Keep at it. Image
