It may well be but I'd put good money down that we'll see them taken down quite soon. Most of them are copyright violations and I know Bill Watrous takes ownership of his product seriously having seen his response to having his image reproduced on tee shirts. I also know many of his friends post here and will certainly mention it to him.

This may well be the LAST place you want to expose hidden caches of materials like that.

Yep, all those great tracks from Don Lusher are a teal treat. Obviously elkartian is from the the sceptred isle, 56 years of age and may even be a lady, judging by the avatar. I think it may be too late to stop the spread of his/her videos as some of them have been there a long time and must have already been shared around YouTube members extensively. Hope so anyway. Personally, seeing such clips on YouTube often causes me to go and buy the recording. In some cases it is the only place where you can get a preview of tracks on a recording. IMO YouTube is good for business and not the other way around. I think it would be pretty shortsited of any musician to try an have them taken down, whether it is Bill Watrous or anybody else.

Kid Ory, playing a Williams?

The band keeping that kinda too fast/kinda too slow tempo with no problem.

If my memory serves me right, that the fact Kid Ory played a Williams for a while was the reason that Chris Barber went searching for one. He ended up getting one from dj.

Am I right, or am I right?

My buddy Dennis Rollins is about to release his new Veocity Trio Cd. Apart from the masterful playing on this track, this video montage is close to my heart as it shows scenes from my musical childhood back in Bentley, Doncaster, Yorkshire. Great Britain. A tapestry of where both Dennis and I grew up including our first trombone teacher John Ellis and leader of the Doncaster Youth Jazz Orchestra. Mr & Mrs Rollins who seemed to have a talent in producing musically gifted offspring.... Bless them :o) x And last but not least the greatest trombone maker of the 21st century Michael Rath. Great work DENNIS xxx.

Go buy it............   Image Image

That was great. I don't know what I enjoyed most, the music or the video! The organ playing in unison with the trombone was a nice sound!

"Paginas de Mujer."

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9HMXeZ_pvpA

A classic from Eddie Palmieri featuring the great Barry Rogers on trombone.  Oscar Hernandez, the great pianist and leader of the Spanish Harlem Orchestra, said of Barry Rogers:

"I knew all of Barry's solos by heart, I could sing them all. I could say that Barry is probably the instrumentalist other than pianists that had the biggest influence on me."

Wow, what a glorious sound and groove that whole track (including, but perhaps not especially, the bone solo) has. Thanks for the link.

Not on YouTube, but you can hear tonight's swing gig at the Kennedy Center's Millenium Stage, with Eric Felten's 14 piece band.  Trombones are me, Ben Patterson, and Jay Gibble.

Ben and I are both playing on Olds Recordings.

Beautiful trombone playing at 31:00 or so in that nice trombone section thing in "I've got the world on a string". Also a trombone section thing at 40:00 or so in "Luck be a lady".

Thank you for sharing this. It's awesome to hear what a truly "locked in" band sounds like playing the big band standards that many of us may have performed many times but not nearly this successfully.

I imagine it was patently glorious as a live performance, even if in the recording the sound engineer seems a little disproportionately fond of saxophones.

Wow, great video. Honest performance, atmospheric recording, good balance without the amplified instruments clipping the mic and overpowering the horns. Great playing too, with great stage presence.

I was never a rocker but how well I remember. Image In fact, I remember him before the Frantic Five when he was with Vic Lewis and then Ken Macintosh. I posted another one of Don's ("Cloudburst") in a topic about trombone pop stars. Trombone Shorty has a similar approach to entertainment in leading on vocals and playing trombone. Not that I think Gordon Langhorn (real name) was known outside of the UK. BTW, he was a really good jazz trombone player in the style of Bill Harris. Image

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZnEz3FDlqt4

I was never a Teddy Boy either but their favourite tune "The Creep" was co-written by Gordon Langhorn aka Don Lang:

Here are three really 'hot' trombone players, all of whom play very good trumpet as you will see in the second video.

Dan Barrett just about tops my list of trombone recording stars of the last twenty years.

Tom Baker was a catalyst for hot jazz in Australia for many years after coming to Australia from America with his family to build a yacht and start a world sailing cruise, which never took place. He is perhaps better known for his trumpet playing. Heck, he is a great sax player also. As one poster comments, videos of him are very precious. He is the reason I got back into jazz in the mid 1990s. The last time I saw him at a jazz festival, shortly before he died of a generic heart condition whilst on tour in Europe, he was playing only trombone and seemed to have found his spiritual instrument home. Great pals with Dan Barrett.

Michael Supnick is the other trombone player and I believe he is often the regular trumpet player with Lino Patruno, whose band this is.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kM9y-XhupnY

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V_etUClzkX0&feature=related

Also in the comments you will see the mention of Tom Baker's rather strange slide technique.

Here is another video from the early 1990s of Dan Barrett playing "Wait Till You See My Cherie". When I first heard him play I was struck by what seems to be a huge Vic Dickensen influence.

http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x16fgo_dan-barret-wait-till-you-see-my-che_music

And this is my favourite video of Tom Baker:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X0OwUeM2xZs

Here is a short bio, if you have never come across him before:

http://www.riffraffjazz.net/tom's%20bio.htm

And this is how I heard him first. At this very place - The Strawberry Hills pub.

Probably around the same time that they realized they were most often being paid similar scale to Wal-Mart employees, Paul.

Sorry, but...there is is.
