Replace valves on Kanstul 1662

Post by ttf_Muffinman »

Hi all,

I'd like some opinions on replacing the valves on my Kanstul 1662.
I love this horn and have played it daily for 5 years, but the F valve has NEVER been great from day one. It's always been scratchy and sticks more than it should.
I've just had my horn serviced and both valves cleaned (and lapped in an attempt to fix the issues). My 2nd valve is smooth and silent, but the F valve even SOUNDS scratchy... like rough metal on metal.

I'm thinking that it was just poorly made to begin with.

I'm considering a replacement, so my question is... what with? Another Kanstul perhaps... but better made!?
Maybe there are other other options?
What does a valve cost?

Thanks in advance for any advice or opinions.

I had problems with my 1662i valves right out of the box, so I sent it back to Kanstul and the valves were great after that. Mine was covered under warranty  I can't imagine that horn with anything but CR valves. The design of the horn is kind of centered on those valves.
