Trombonists in Vegas?

Post by mcphatty00 »

I moved here back in September from York, PA (just north of Baltimore). I haven't done too much digging, but it seems like a bit of a trombone wasteland out here.

Aren't there quite a few fine trombonists staying very busy playing all the shows in town?

I know a solid trombonist who retired to Vegas a few years ago.

Check these guys out. They can play.

The union there got plastered by the wait staff union declining to support the musician strike, when?, 20 years ago or more? They lost their LA style hall and lots of gigs, and everyone is still a bit sad. Until then one could play the hotels and have a suburban ranch house lifestyle. Hopefully it's better now.

Once upon a time, there was an annual "76 Trombones + 4" (the "4" being rhythm) benefit concert to raise money to fund the Abe Nole (founder of The Boneheads) scholarship for trombone students at UNLV. I there in 2008 as a member of Bones West; I think the 25th anniversary concert in 2009 was the last one.
