Patriotic Americana Repertoire Suggestions

Post by trombonesLOUDERplease »

My trombone choir (Columbus Bones) is invited to perform at a Veterans Day event. Any suggestions for patriotic or Americana repertoire for four or more trombones would be much appreciated.

Thank you. Great suggestions. I was actually looking for existing arrangements.

I don’t have time (or talent) to put together my own arrangements from basic lead sheets or piano scores

I have a pretty massive collection of trombone choir music but almost none of it is patriotic.

You can make a nice trombone ensemble from Americana Collection books. You will need at least 1st Trumpet, 2nd Trumpet, Baritone, and Tuba, Add other parts as desired (horn, trombone). Naturally your players on the Trumpet books need to play Bb treble clef (tenor clef). Arrangements are really easy -- after all, these can be played by elementary school bands.

I made a trombone octet arrangement of the Star-Spangled Banner if it would interest you! It was premiered by Posaune Brasil at the Thomas Jefferson House Foundation in Brasilia.

IIRC, around Sept 11, 2001, Robert Elkjer made available a free trombone quartet arrangement of America the Beautiful (likely over the old Forum).

I think I lost my copies of the pdf files when a computer was upgraded, but some other “old timers” here may recall the arrangement.
