I have gone from 1 to 7 and back down again... Right now it's just what's in my signature, plus a pocket trumpet.

Shires bass- TruBores, C TS in yellow, B62 slide, Corporation Bach bell, 2.5 leadpipe. Gone through 5 other basses (1 Holton and 4 Bachs) in the last 3 years to get to this point.

Beater Elkhart Conn 6H ('56 I think?)

Yamaha 842S in dire need of a valve job

Yamaha 301S marching baritone for sentimental reasons and to noodle on

Allora pocket trumpet for travel! Great little horn, only issue is the very flat 1st partial.

I'm a collector of instruments, mostly interested in having one of each different type, rather than having decent instruments. I've got one of each type of trombone, other than the F Contrabass, and the apparently mythical 'sopranino' in Eb (between piccolo and soprano)

Here's a video demo of all my trombones: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n15d1AEMKTc

A good opportunity to make a listing and write down the serial numbers, just in case he's right

But - if I can't find my way through the mess, how should others? Moreover, the real danger resides inside the house ("wife"  :o).

So, here they are...

I went for years - 1985 to 2003 or so with two trombones:
Bach 50B2 (both Eb and D second valve slides)- owned since 1975
Bach 36GLW ( straight tenor - light weight slide) - since fall of 1982

These two remain and are played often.
However - I now have the following:
Bach 36 custom modular with a wide slide, G valve, F valve and 36G and 42G bells.

I also have a 36 silver bell( not sterling), 36 brass bell and a dual bore slide thst is a 36 slide with a King 3B LW tube and 3B lead pipe.

Too many. Definitely too many.  Mostly caught the disease recently.

King 2103/3B acquired new in fall of 1994. Still have it and love it.
Bach Stradivarius 42T purchased new in 1999 after trading in my 42CO.
Yamaha YSL-640 purchased new in Fall of 2009. First medium bore horn.
Yamaha YBL-621RII purchased used in Spring of 2010. First and only Bass bone. (a keeper)
Kanstul 1570CR purchased new in 2010 as a "lighter Bach 42" after trading in my used Benge 190F.
Kanstul 1588CR purchased new in 2011 as an "88H-like instrument"
Bach 39LT Alto purchased used in 2012 as my first alto (it's amazing)

Only real plans for the future are a straight .525 or a straight .547., and a new case for the 42T.

Four, but only one of them is a trombone, a medium-bore Yamaha with F valve. She Whose Utterances Must Be Acknowledged is happy that I sold my .500 Bach straight horn to a good home soon after the other one arrived.

A beat-up BSA bugle gathers dust high above the mantel.

A 1960 or '61 Conn Director cornet sits in its case, in good playing order.

An old Courtois saxhorn in the euph range sits bell-down on the floor next to the trombone stand, played often. I call it the "funnel of love," when I'm not calling it the dribblehorn or the popcorn catcher. So far, She has not actually thrown bonbon-sized objects into the bell while I'm playing, for which I am thankful.

The didge in D doesn't count as a horn, so I won't mention it further.

I think threads like this. It makes me feel that hoarding a wide range of wind instruments might not be so abnormal after all.  Image

Michael Rath R2 tenor trombone (Nickel Bell) 2008 My Main horn. Bought 2ndhand via ebay from a pro in North London. Still using the Laskey 50C gobiron courtesy of Slidennis.
Conn 6H tenor trombone , 1957 - Was an ebay beat up but the slide is working well now (courtesy of Rath's) that I could easily use it as my main horn again. Richer more complex sound than the R2 configuration but not as smooth/silky.
Conn 8H large-bore tenor trombone, - Also ebay. Sold my 88H sometime after getting this. I haven't played in brass bands or orchestras for a while but keep this one to keep my options open. Intend to dust this one down soon.
B&S alto trombone, - Old East German. Saw it in a music shop going for very little in the late 80's. Had a play on it recently but I used to use it.
Bauhaus bass trombone, - very cheap Chinese double plug bass trombone. Bought it from the importer. Plays fine and nice to own.
Olds [s]marchingbone[/s] flugabone - Another ebay find. Fun to play occasionally. I like it with an old Conn 3 mouthpiece. Not a loud horn.
King 2B Valve trombone - on loan to a student. I used to play king trombones.
Bb tuba - Brandless Chinese from a German ebay trader. Have depped in a brass band and at work on it a few times. The German style rotary valve tuba really confuses people around here.
'Gear 4 Music' Baritone Sax Chinese made shop brand bought privately via a sax forum near 3 years ago. My first saxophone. A fun double in the ska band. Have also played it at work.
Bauhaus M2E tenor sax - Taiwan made and very nice. Bought it new from the importer. Play it most at church and sit in school concert band on it at work.
Yamaha student alto sax - picked up for a good price on vacation. Maybe aim to play it at church sometime.
Leblanc 'paperclip' Eb contra clarinet - 60's instrument via Ebay. Spent a lot of money getting it into good playing condition. Figured out how to play it a little then stopped because although I like it, I still haven't found a use for it yet. Might sell it.
Akai EWI4000s - ebay - another doubling instrument for the ska band.

Have also previously played baritones/euphoniums but never bought my own. Also have keyboards.  I bought a french horn once was put off by the small mouthpiece. My wife plays trumpets/cornets/flugel and saxes.

I guess its true our horns are representative of us so with a Eastman 310, a Blessing B7, a Blessing B88, and a Reynolds Contempora 72x - Philharmonic Bass (My 1950's baby I have around 30 years), I suppose I am a older returning student (310)with intermediate skills (B7,B88)with a sentimental side that knows a good one, and holds it through thick and thin (my Reynolds)!!! You can also say I am one to cover all bases hence a .500, .525, .547 and a .564   HAPPY NEW YEAR to all on the forum.  Image

I have always been wanting to pick up a tuba and/or ephonium.  But I think I'm pretty much done with trombones.  I have the ones I have for specific purposes.

The 3B is the small ensemble or big band horn. Maybe for pit depending on what the show would be.

The Yamaha 640 is small ensemble, pit, or maybe 1st in orchestra. Also good for solos.

The 1570 is my Bach-like horn that isn't quite as much of a sound cannon as the 42T is. It's a great horn, great sound, and is more nimble than the back.

The 1588 is my conn horn and/or solo horn. If I'm stuck with a bunch of conns or conn-like instruments in an orchestra, I bring the 1588.

The 42T is a great cannon for lower parts, and can play the 3rd or bass trombone parts in a lot of stuff, as we have a very small orchestra.

And the bass and alto horns are there for when a bass or alto is truly needed.

I honestly don't know how many I have... they are mostly tucked away. There are a few tubas, valve trombones, tenors, lots of basses, tibetan trumpets, it's all a little fluid most of the time... stuff coming and going.... but I know there are people here with more  Image Image
I will get it all out and check sometime this year....

Started playing 60 years ago on a Besson Peashooter tenor
Bought a Besson Stratford tenor in 1958 when I left school
Bought a King 3B+ Bb/ F tenor in 1980
Bought a Bach 36B Bb/ F tenor in 1988
Bought a Yamaha YBL 311 Bass 2nd hand in 1988
Bought a Rath R9 in line with a bronze slide, red brass tuning slide and 2 bells- red brass and yellow brass, in 2006 at ITF 2006 Birmingham UK.
In 2012 I decided an alto would be fun to try and that trying to play it would stimulate the mind. Bought an I&K Chinese alto (Good fun!)
Also, I have had a Boosey and Hawkes Emperor trumpet since 1955 and a Boosey and Hawkes Imperial Euphonium (1938 vintage) since 2008 (Cost AUS$20-00)

As I play Bass trombone in local orchestras nearly always,I use the Rath mostly these days but it is fun to try to keep up on them all.

Cheers to all for 2015

this question allways frightens me...

I don't really need more than one horn (there is no way to play 2 on the same time righ?¿) but I own 5 trombones and have a tuba and a trumpet also... Fortunatelly one of the trombones is a lamp now...

.485 / 7   : Bach 6iii
.500 / 8   : pBone
.508 / 8   : King 3b
.525 / 8   : Bach 36
.547 / 8.5: Shires (Conn-like configuration)
.562 / 9.5: Shires (BII7YM / independent / B62NYC)

Plus a Yamaha 641 euphonium, my old student trombone(Bach), and my dad's old student trumpet (King)

So, I guess I have 9. That seems about the right number (but I wouldn't mind trying a Shires 7YM tenor bell).

I just made a list for insurance, so I guess I'll list 'em here too. It is a little scary to see it on the screen though- it doesn't SEEM like I have many.  Image

R. Egger Renaissance slide trumpet
Meinl & Lauber alto baroque trombone (sackbut)
A. Egger tenor baroque trombone (sackbut)
M. Leuchter bass baroque trombone (sackbut)

R. Egger classical tenor trombone

~1900 LeFevre
  1910 Holton Special
~1910 R. Schopper tenor/bass

1962 King 2b Silversonic

1970s? 80s? Yamaha Williams 9 copy

Early 90s Shires era .547/.562 Edwards Thayer
Early 90s Shires era .547 Edwards straight
Early 90s Yamaha ysl-671 alto

So that's 13. Seems appropriate.

I have two but one is for sale.

1984 Bach 42B, old reliable and it has been my horn since high school despite the 5 or 6 I have owned and sold.

Elkhart 8H, I recently required this horn but truth be told I'm just not a Conn guy and I prefer my Bach

Post by ttf_anonymous »

I have a 61 6h with a 3b slide crook, lightened slide, and interchangeable pipes of the 6h pipe or a bach 12 pipe

I have a 60s 48h constellation

A fullerton olds studio that has the nickel silver / brass bell

And an early reynolds professional model that predates the contemporas and all of those models, it is very king like

How's my collection going and what all do y'all have ? Hard to make time  for em all but they are all great

Annoyingly, a couple more followed me home for about the cost of a nice dinner for two. I'm pretty sure my wife would've preferred the dinner, but I couldn't resist. Changes are in bold.

Quote from: baroquetrombone on Jan 07, 2015, 02:47PMI just made a list for insurance, so I guess I'll list 'em here too. It is a little scary to see it on the screen though- it doesn't SEEM like I have many.  Image

Down to only two (trombones).

Yamaha 653R .500 bore. Yellow brass outers, rose brass bell. Very sweet sound. Very articulate. Best slide I've ever tried.

King 2104 (4B) .547 bore. Straight tenor, no trigger. Nickle silver outers, rose brass bell. Slide quicker than expected.
Still getting used to it and trying mouthpieces.

I'm hoping the King will bring more power, impact to street band performances.

Oooops.... forgot about this one....
Olds Marching Trombone... .520 bore, very soft attach unless you really hit it. You can use a deep V Bach 19 to make it really soft, or a schilke 40B or yamaha 48A to make it more like a trombone.

Four and a half.

The workhorses.
1962 H.N. White 3B with a Kanstul H8 in 'bronze'
... and an 80s 3B/F bell, thus the half.
1948 H.N. White 1480 (Precursor to Symphony and 5B) Silver-plated, .536/.546, Brown & Sharpe shank.
(All acquired through DJ, thanks a ton!)

And then the fun/experimental ones.
1918 H.N. White .508 8" slide-tuning. Fun! The bell throat opens up and the taper flares a lot faster than a 3B.
Best backup horn I've ever used, but slide-heavy. Working on a way to fix that. (Thanks, greenbean!)
1910 H.N. White  ... Solo Artist model? 6.5" bell, .460 bore? Probably the closest to Teagarden I'll ever sound.
    (Thanks, ebay!)

I've parted with the rest, student models and such and my first pro horn, a 36BO which just stopped suiting me. Sentimentality sometimes gets outvoted by dollars, alas.
