Programming question: sing along Opera choruses?

Post by ttf_Ellrod »

We recently performed Mozart's Cmin mass followed after break by some popular opera choruses.

When I mentioned the opera choruses  to a friend, she asked "Singalong?"

Do you think something like that would be popular?

The "Hallelujah" chorus is a favorite for that sort of thing and I have heard of entire "Messiah" events done as audience sing-along.

Back in the 70s Leonard Slatkin used to do 4-hour "Baroque Marathon" concerts with the Minnesota orchestra and one time they closed the concert with a "Hallelujah" chorus sing-along.

He took a few moments before hand to get the audience warmed up and singing and he rehearsed a few key moments like when the men sing "And he shall reign..."

I presume they had the choral score printed in the program.

Maybe the "Anvil Chorus" would be another candidate for such treatment.

Hebrew Slaves. Anvil chorus are two of the numbers we performed.

Have a few ringers show off, finish off with a big sing along.
