Here's the Quincy Jones Prom from the Albert Hall London with the fabulous Metropole Orchestra.

Nice solo from Bart van Lier in " I can't stop loving you"

Enjoy

IMO the sound balance of the "non-classical" proms leaves a lot to be desired especially the vocals, and in this instance the 'bones as well.

As you say nice BvL and the bass trombone playing is great too..

Agree about the sound balance. The Jacob Collier numbers were seriously lacking in enough from him to balance the orchestra and the other singers.

-We don't really have anything like the Proms here in the US, do we?

-I find it interesting that the man who wrote the "Sanford and Son" theme studied with Nadia Boulanger.

The granddaddy of the Americans was the Boston Pops.  It was modeled after the Proms.  Now many major American orchestras have short Pops seasons.

Which is all good. Many people don't realise that the Proms has a lot of "difficult" music too, including new commissions every year. I saw a stunning Birtwhistle "Orpheus" a couple of years ago. There's no other event like it in the world.

From what I've seen of the Proms, it's a rather different festival than pops concerts we have here.

Not to mention, the Proms are incredibly cheap if you line up on the day. I miss them!

Eight weeks of concerts with a different program every day.  That's amazing.
