Scholarship Opportunity for High School Jazz Trombonists in Greater DC Region

Post by ttf_anonymous »

The Jazz Academy of Music, under the direction of jazz saxophonist Paul Carr, is establishing a merit scholarship competition for high school jazz trombonists in the Washington, DC region.  The scholarship includes tuition, room and board for an intensive summer jazz camp and tuition for the Jazz Academy Orchestra for the 2017-18 academic year.  More information on the competition is available here: http://www.jazzacademy.org/ensembles/introductory-ensemble/jaie-registration/

The only requirements are that the student will be in high school for the 2017-18 academic year and commit to rehearsing and performing with the Jazz Academy Orchestra for the academic year.  The Orchestra rehearses every other week on Tuesday evenings in Silver Spring, MD.  The Orchestra attracts some of the finest high school jazz musicians in the DC area with alumni attending prestigious music schools such as Eastman, Julliard, and Oberlin, and pursuing professional jazz careers.

This is the first year for the competition but the intent is to continue the competition on a yearly basis to provide an additional incentive for high school musicians to study trombone.
