Is it dark because of old lacquer or does it look like there are different color brasses used, especially bell vs slide.

It is dark because of aging lacquer. It is not significantly dark - look at the pics. It just does not have that bright yellow color. It has patina

I recently purchased a 1966 Bach 12 and it has a beautiful Dark patina to it.
