FS or Trade: Interesting Medium Bore 8H

Post by dwn8ve » Tue Apr 17, 2018 10:21 pm

This is an instrument I acquired in a trade awhile back and just has not been used as it should. I would prefer it go somewhere that it can get the play time it deserves.

Here is the email I received from the previous owner describing the instrument.

"The .525 slide section was hand made by Eric Edwards in the Dallas, Tx area. Unlacquered lightweight brass outers, narrow brass crook and nickel grips, Brassark MV36 leadpipe (small shank). Beautiful workmanship.
Slide action is excellent.

The bell section is a gen 2 Conn 8H in standard weight rose brass. What is special about it though, is that it was custom ordered by a prominent LA studio player with an 8 inch bell, rather than the regular 8 1/2 inch.

Together, the unique combination plays somewhat lighter, brighter and quicker than any 8H or Bach 36, with great projection and focus (due to the 8 inch bell imho).
It's a more commercial sounding medium bore with a nice open feel.
With a shallower mouthpiece it can play quite bright.
With a deeper mpc, it obviously sounds more traditional."

Would consider trades for altos, large bores, or trumpets (I know it is a trombone site, but I should work on my doubling chops :horror: )

Any questions, or offers let me know!

Sounds like it was built to be a modern day 78H.

My guess:
Gen1 - Elkhart
Gen2 - Abilene
Gen3 - ??? (Wherever they were made most recently)
Gen4 - New Elkhart

From my understanding, gen 2 was What Conn dubbed their instruments after a redesign in the 1980’s. This was after production moved from Elkhart to Abilene.

Would you consider selling just the bell section? If so, send me an email at ebrenner@comcast.net
