Re: Wide slide ergonomics?

I actually prefer wider slides when they have a ring on them. I made a ring for my edwards slide and it was pretty easy. I would go to your local tech and have them install a ring, but make sure you are there so you can tell them where to put it so it’s actually comfortable.

Surprising that they plated your bell section without asking, and put a yankees logo on the plate. Just to be clear, the only thing you asked for is the custom valve wrap, engraving, and satin finish? Did the copper half have a satin finish?

The thayer doesn’t cost that much, maybe $700 extra or something like that. I’m happy to pay $4000 and get that horn, it’s honestly a great horn. I did switch the tuning slide back to the gold brass, mainly because i didn’t want to have to find the case of the custom. Do i need a shires? No.... but ...

Yeah, i actually really like their tubas. Solid horns. If you take care of them, there should be no problem with seizing valves. Their compensating euphs are trash. I hate them. I hate them. I hate them. They’re like 3 grand and play worse than any chinese horn i have ever played. The eastman euphon...

Has eastman stepped up their game?

We just got a shipment in from eastman, so i get to spend my day testing horns and lubing them up. No shires this time :weep: I was really impressed with all of the ETB430Gs, which is pretty much a copy of the yamaha 448G. For a while i’ve been telling people to just pay the $500-600 extra and get a...

When I teach, and I know I'm not the only teacher who uses this method, I may have a student sing a short excerpt from an etude, then buzz that same short bit on the mouthpiece and finally play it on the horn and I do get results. When they buzz, I ask them not to try to slot directly into the pitc...
