That may be because of the weird pitch problem where Schilke made a bunch of them that were too flat to play. Or am I confusing that with another company/horn?

Here's a picture: https://capitolmusic.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/trombone-left-hand.jpg That picture has a little hand support, but that's how you should hold it. I completely agree...I wouldn't march with the 88H. Marching is notoriously hard on instruments and I'd put a cheaper horn on the field...

Cut It

Hi Chatters, I've got a Bach 36BO. I'm planning on cutting the F-attachment tuning slide to G. How much tubing to I need to cut from it to make the magic happen? Is there a formula I can use to remove 2 half-steps of tubing from the attachment? If it's longer than the available length of the tuning ...

One option if it's scaled or corroded on the inside from sitting for years without being cleaned first, it's good to fill the outer with distilled vinegar and let it sit overnight, provided there are no leaks. Follow that up with your usual bath and snake, and play it for a couple days, swabbing it...

Little Hash Marks

Hello Chatters! Okay, so how accurate and reliable are the little hash marks on rotor valves? I feel like they SHOULD be accurate, but I also feel like I should buy a cheap borescope and have a look at my horns and see. And French horns are difficult to eyeball anyway, so I should probably invest in...

My quick advice - take some time off, especially from the horn. Try freebuzzing (buzzing without a mouthpiece) and see how that feels. It'll help you get stronger while not applying mechanical force/leverage to the damaged area.

We've gone back and forth about a section for that. It's tricky, because things can quickly sprawl into an unmanageable mess. I'm not sure if we'll implement that section or not.

I have had tennis elbow from the trombone...particularly when i was working up the Bourgeois and Schnieder concertos.

Entirely possible that the music shop itself screwed up the horn and then put it away, either forgetting about it...or an individual employee trying to defer blame. You never know. It would be very difficult to believe that the Conn left the factory that way.

If you want a trombone that sounds and feels like a Conn 88H then you gotta get a Conn 88H! I also recently play tested several new ones at a shop, including a Lindberg valve. All had the classic sound and excellent valve function. They’ve had a bad rep since the move to Elkhart, but first hand exp...
