Great playing! Laughed out loud when they listed the composer as Tom Jobim though. Must have been Antonio Carlos Jobim's American cousin :)
He was also known as Tom Jobim...
Did not know that! (obviously). I just leaped to the conclusion that it was anglicized by whoever filmed this. Oops

Found this video of de Souza with Frank Rosolino. He's playing slide bone on this and is tremendous.

Re: Bollinger Tuning System - Genius!

He has a book out that talks through the benefits of this in way more detail but I will try to provide a boiled down version. Yes, 1st valve stays in F, and the 2nd is between G and Gb. It is an independent system. I would not call that irrelevant as there would be nearly no benefit with this setup ...

Re: Miles Anderson

Me finding this link was kind of caused by picking up a copy of the Los Angeles Brass Quintet disc he is on which is also outstanding. That got me thinking about Miles' second solo album which my teacher in undergrad exposed me to. The Quintet is Mario Guarneri,Thomas Stevens, Ralph Pyle, Mils and R...

Re: what is superslick plus from the Slide Doctor video

I used that for a while along with trombotine and it worked quite well. I use the yamasnot now and prefer that.

I would say it is closer to the Slide O Mix small bottle. Not the same as rapid comfort or yamasnot.

Re: Favorite Mouthpieces?

I use Greg Black for Tenor and Bass I played his 1G about 10 years ago and while I really liked it, I decided at the time it was a bit too much for me. From there I played Laskey 93D, Hammond 20 for a year or so each. Found an original Minick L that I loved and played that for about 5 years. Once Gr...

Re: Flying with trombone case

CRJ900's are very small. I would be surprised (assuming he gets the case past the gate agent) that it would fit in the overhead bin even if he was the only person on the plane.

Re: Cichowicz books low brass version coming out

Looking at that webpage, this single book is available for $24.95, I'm guessing that is USD. His first 3 books are available as a package for $74.95. Right (and yes, that is US$), but the low brass version sounds like it combines the first two of the trumpet books. I think because of that it is saf...

Cichowicz books low brass version coming out

I am not involved with this project in any way, but Vincent Cichowicz's son Michael is releasing the long tones and flow studies (volume one) books for low brass. No mention that I am seeing of what the price will be, but I certainly look forward to checking out the book once it is released! https:/...

Thought you were selling a Yamaha tenor trombone. Boo hoo.
I assumed it would be clearer since it was in the mouthpiece classified section. Added MPC to title to prevent others from getting their hopes up of finding a cheap Xeno

Re: How Do You Charge for Lessons?

I do not run a studio anymore, but when I did followed most of the advice here: - I used a contract just to lay out expectations/payment/rates/how to handle conflicts, etc - payment due by 1st lesson of the month - My lessons were purposely scheduled on days that had few conflicts for gigs. When one...
