Re: I took over a big band and I am officially insane!

Our leader, who started the band 7 years ago, just announced he is moving to another country. Leaves a bunch of interesting questions, like, the band’s bank account, ownership of the charts. I assume the $ and at least some of cost of the charts came from gigs for which no one was ever paid. 1/3 of...

My company let me keep my black and white HP Laserjet when we upgraded to color printers. The HP toner cartridges were over $65 each. I got two aftermarket toner cartridges for under $20 on eBay and after the first ten pages all is good. Maybe you can get a similar deal for your Lexmark.

Don't know particular vendors. I took a risk on a 3B posted by a guy with no feedback, new on eBay, and got a good deal. If you go through eBay and use PayPal, you have backup in case what you get is not what you were promised.

Local music store was selling cheap Chinese copy horns (Mendini?) brand new that took a medium shank. I pity the parents that bought a trash horn anyway, and to make it worse couldn't find replacement/upgrade mouthpieces.

First, a King 606 is a student horn, not an intermediate. Medium bore horns have a .525 bore, in the mieels between between the .500 bore horns like your Bach and a .547 bore large bore tenor, like a Conn 88H, King 4B, or Bach 42B. Medium bore horns include the Bach 36 and TB200, Blessing B78, King ...

I would go with a .508 horn like a 3B. A .500 bore like a 2B might be too small for 3rd, and too bright for concert band. Get one with an F attachment if you can, that'll help on the 3rd parts and not hurt when playing 1st. Check your local Craigslist, you might get lucky.
