I would stay with the 88H for now. Take it to a GOOD Repair tech and have it worked on. The 88H has been the Orchestral standard (along with the 42B)
for years. It`s still the sound people are trying to replicate on some Shires and Edwards set-ups.

I`ve never forgotten my mouthpiece, too damn paranoid.
I have duplicates in all my horns and a "Buzzing" mouthpiece (Megatone 7C) in my car at all times.
I always check everything before I leave the house.

I`ve been spending a little time with the CB and it really plays well.
The horn responds very quickly and it`s very dark but will brighten up when ask to.

I had a Bach 12 for a while (Yellow Brass Bell/Standard weight slide) that was the heaviest small bore I`ve ever played. It was almost the same weight as my 42BO.
It had a great dense sound but was just too heavy for me . Sold it to someone that is really happy with it,

Jimmy Knepper played a 36 with an 8 1/2" bell. I read in an interview that he said it was the best horn he`d ever played.

On Euphonium I use a Schilke Silver plated 46D rim on a gold plated 51 underpart.
A couple years ago I sold to a fellow forum member a silver 46D rim with a Gold plated 51B underpart

I tried that configuration and found that it lost a little of the core of the sound. more diffuse.
and the tuning got a little off. The 7 1/2" Bell gives the horn more punch
And the other way around with the 32H bell and the 78H slide was just weird.
