Anybody play Trombonium or Baritone horn?

I have a question for anybody who plays one of these instruments. Can you please describe how you hold the horn to play effectively? I'm having a hard time holding the instrument so that the proper angle is maintained for the mouthpiece. As I hold the horn in front of me and play the valves, I find ...

Re: New forum category?

I see the 'Perforance' forum. I guess this is where you had intended playing discussions to be? I guess the name 'performance' threw me. It struck me as being narrower than what I was posting about, but that's probably just my perception. I had in mind something that might be called 'Gigging' or 'Wo...

New forum category?

I've noticed that there's no category for talking about actually PLAYING the trombone. It would be nice to have place(s) to talk about playing, gigs, things like that.....

Control shoulder tension?

Hi all, I've been experiencing a lot of tension (and pain) in my left shoulder while playing. I have an underlying condition that causes pain in my shoulder, but it seems to get exacerbated when playing. Other than the obvious "just don't tense it up" advice, does anyone have any insight on avoiding...

Re: Self-recording on android with decent quality - USB interfaces?

I tried several times to record myself (bass trombone and Eb tuba) with an android phone, but the recordings really are bad. Tried also an external small microphone, which mad as bad a result as the internal mike. Are there decent USB microphones that do work together with an adroid phone? Or do I ...

Re: How Do You Charge for Lessons?

I've found the following to be effective: - I charge for a month ahead - lessons can be rescheduled with at LEAST 24 hours notice at my convenience. I'll also reschedule in the case of extraordinary circumstances (death in the family, car accident, force majeur, etc.) - I will allow a certain number...

Re: The Other Site

One has to remember that rlb is a one-man band when it comes to the technical side of TTF. It is not so long since he mentioned he had to undergo more hospital time. Plus that latest message, did not give any time for the improvements. "We're moving! Over the next two weeks, the Forum's server is b...

Dumb question about trombones

So this may be a stupid question from a newbie, but here goes (actually it's a couple of questions): - are bell sections and slide sections interchangeable? Can I take a bell section from an ol Olds studio (for example) and mate it with a new Bach slide section? - can I replace the slide section on ...

This is a Conn with a bell from an 88H on it....large bore I think. I believe it's from the '70s.

I'm guessing that, for whatever reason, the site's not coming back. They mention moving to upgrade...it just doesn't take THIS long. I suspect that there are other circumstances at play here...

Re: Jazz "play along"

The biggest problem with Band-in-Box is the archaic nature of the program itself, which hasn't been updated much since Windows 3.1, sadly. It's not just asthetic; the functional and organizational limitations are BAD. I have the Aebersold tracks on my phone because I copied the files on there. I am...

Re: HELP? What mouthpiece do I buy?

No it's definitely NOT a small shank. I was able to contact the guy who sold me the horn and he confirmed it's a large shank instrument. So, problem solved.

HELP? What mouthpiece do I buy?

Hi all,

I am new to trombone after playing trumpet for >50 years. I just bought a Conn Trombonium. Unfortunately my trombone mouthpiece seems to be too small for it. So what do I need? A trombone mouthpiece with a large shank?

Re: Great Youtube channel for brass players...

Just a little correction here. Michael is himself NYC based and interviews a lot of NYC based brass players, but he also interviews great players from all over the place. Just to be clear.

Great Youtube channel for brass players...

Some of you may know about this, but for those that don't. NYC trombonist Michael Davis has a great channel on Youtube called 'HipBone Music' where he does interviews with prominent NYC based brass players. He has interviews with some of your favorite trombone and trumpet players. Check it out! http...
