Re: Well, Here's a New One...

Seem like you could add a small trombone slide to that.

Re: Valve Trombone Acceptance

I bought a valve bone 40 years ago. I leaned valve fingerings better. I learned there was no way to get it in tune. And therefor also learned what the woodshed was for. A trumpet player made an offer for it and I leaned that was a good thing. Later I developed neurological trouble and lost my fast t...

Re: Edwards CR valves

I have one of these valves. Had it for a few years. It is simply great! I love how it does not feel heavy in the upper register as the horn just vibrates very nice. In the lower range it puts out. I can get a low C pretty good then if I pull the slide a bit I can nail it. The sound is very smooth wh...

Re: Long slide short slide?

Thanks Horn builder.
So the slide length is more of what is left over for the bell section? Or vice versa depending on the goal of the horn design?

Long slide short slide?

So a I 547/562 brass long slide and a 547/562 nickle short slide. The nickle brass thing is the most notable difference. My horns are in my profile. I like the long slide in 6th and 7th as the slide works better. And I like the short slide because I always have to cut my horns shorter so the short s...

Case latch repair

I have an Edwards tan case that the center latch is letting go on. A little bounce when walking and it unsnaps. I might be able to tighten up the hasp but doubt it will be good enough.
Anyone replaced a latch? Did you find rivets?

Re: Bach 36 Open Wrap

This probably not the answer you hear most. 30 years ago I bought a 36B with the closed wrap. The open wrap did not seem any better, in fact it seemed tighter. Maybe because of the 180 degree turn. Also the balance of the closed wrap was better. The open wrap needed a counter weight on the slide. I ...

Re: Bass Trombones- Single vs Dependent vs Independent

My dependent Bach does better on the low range and has more twinkle in the tenor range then any indi Bach I have tried. Much of that is the neck pipe. It might also be that Kevin Powers of Michigan Musical reassembled my horn many years ago and it got better.

Re: Trombone Materials

It's 92.5% silver and 7.5% copper. Note that the metal content is only one factor in how a bell responds. The design can matter a lot more. King identifies sterling bells with a Sterling hallmark (looks like an L with a line through it). Does your Edwards have a similar hallmark? More silver and le...

Re: Trombone Materials

I have an Edwards bell that is sterling silver. I think the Conn 88 sterling silver bells are similar as opposed to the Bach silver bells that are different. I think the King Sterling silver bells are different from my Edwards. They do not ring the same or play the same compared to a brass bell. So ...

Re: Slide-O-Mix Light

I use SOM for a rotor valve lube. Lasts a long time and does not bother my allergies with oil. Slide-o-Mix or the light version? The light version or the one bottle version seem best. The thicker one does not seem in as well. The Teflon and silicon tend to hold on for a long time. I also find when ...

Re: Günter Frost Custom Bb/C/F Tenor-Bass Trombone by Jürgen Voigt

C makes a lot of sense. My Bass is a Bb/F/C.
Seems like a better valve and wrap would help. And maybe tuning in the slide since the back half is a little short for the taper.
I would love to play one of these!

Re: Bass Trombones- Single vs Dependent vs Independent

My Bass is dependent Bb/F/C. The big advantage I took on the dependent is the second valve tubing is larger so with two valves the horn still blows easy. My Bass Bach 50 was bought in the 70’s from Giardinelli in New York. The sales guy I worked with said the horn was originally a single valve Mount...

Partial line up

Over the last two years with some great lessons from Ken Thompkins my sound has improved a lot. Funny thing though is my partials are lining up really close. D is a little short but not often. F above the staff is the same as F in the staff most of the time as is Bb and high Bb. Low F is still short...

Horn stand when you go home

When I go home I unpack my horns and put them on my stand. This stand is attached to the floor so the horns cannot be slid up against each other. Each horn has a wood pole/dowel set in a 2 x 6. A rubber tip is on the top and a plunger with the center drilled out is part way down to rest the bell. A ...

Re: POLL: Gig Bags vs. Hard Case vs. Semi-Hard Cases

I have a bad nerve in my left arm so I have a cymbal stand with a round armrest. I will often put that, a trombone stand and a few mutes in my gig bag with the horn in my tan Edwards case.

Re: Nailing a note in the middle of nowhere

The bad boy approach, Find a spot that you can play a low G very soft and blend with an orchestras G. I have even gone though a YouTube recording with a pitch pipe so I know where I can get away with it.
Been doing it for years and I play soft enough people think I am just dump the spit valve.

I often say I am happier than a pink unicorn on a carousel.

Anyone have a cheep plastic pink unicorn suitable for the garden?

While this post may make a big increase in posts for the board. I really would like the pink unicorn.
